A short guideline to understanding stabilised lichen

One of the trends in interior design in recent years is to use stabilized natural lichen for decorating interiors with a touch of green.

Stabilized lichen is very adaptable to any design requirement: it can be customized in terms of shape, size, color, and can be integrated with other accessories, such as LED lights.

In this guide, we will answer the main questions about stabilized lichen for interiors, such as how it’s obtained, how much it costs, and how it can be installed.

What Is Stabilized Natural Lichen?

Stabilized natural lichen is natural lichen – harvested at its peak development – and subjected to the stabilization process

Stabilization “crystallizes” the lichen in its form and maintains its appearance over time. Sometimes the term “stabilized natural lichen” is used interchangeably with “stabilized moss,” but they are not the same.

What Is the Difference Between Moss and Lichen? They are two different plant species in terms of organic structure, but they look quite similar.

Moss is a leafy plant species, with small branching structures.

Lichens are a combination of fungi and algae, and in some cases, they can resemble a small branched shrub.

Stabilized Green Lichen: How Is It Obtained?

How is lichen stabilized? The process is simple: the plant is immersed in a solution of water and salt – and optionally natural dye if customization is desired -.

The salt gradually replaces all the sap and prevents lichen photosynthesis. This means that the lichen will no longer grow and remains “crystallized” in its current form.

The lichen is left in the solution for a specific period and then dried.

How Long Does Stabilized Lichen Last?

Verde Profilo’s stabilized lichen is guaranteed for 5 years, maintaining its appearance and color unchanged.

How Much Does Stabilized Lichen Cost?

The most accurate answer is: it depends on the interior design project

The factors that have the most impact on cost are the dimensions of the area to be covered, the chosen coloration, and the integration with other accessories, such as LED lights.

Where Can Stabilized Lichen Be Installed?

Anywhere in an indoor environment

The installation types include:

  • On the wall
  • On the ceiling
  • In free-standing mode
  • As a partition wall

Stabilized lichen is particularly ideal for decorating Public Spaces

What Are the Advantages of Stabilized Lichen?

  • It’s antistatic, doesn’t retain dust
  • It’s antibacterial
  • It’s sound-absorbing
  • It’s customizable in terms of shape, size, and color
  • It requires no maintenance

How to Clean Stabilized Lichen?

Stabilized lichen requires no maintenance

The only precaution is to ensure that the environment maintains a standard humidity level of 40%

To do this, simply purchase a hygrometer, an inexpensive, small, and easy-to-use device that measures humidity percentage.

In case of changing climatic conditions that could alter humidity levels, simply ventilate the space for a few minutes and then check the hygrometer again.
